Ruth Bader Ginsburg reimagined in drag, painted louder than the gray of the bench. The dissent collar becomes a crown. The colors of her face refuse to stay quiet.

The Shantay series honors historic American figures who fought, in their own way, for the right of all of us to exist freely. Ruth wasn't queer, but she was loud where the law had been silent. Marriage equality. Workplace protection. Gender equality. The right to be seen as a full person under the law. She moved each of them forward, dissent by dissent, opinion by opinion.

When the law remembers some of us and forgets others, somebody has to keep insisting. Ruth insisted. The series remembers her by painting her louder.

Shantay, We Will Stay! reimagines historic American icons in drag as a tribute to the strength and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. Vibrant color, sharp form, and a clear message. They tried to erase us. So I painted us louder.
